Migrants and Refugees

THIS year’s theme chosen by Pope Francis is: Child Migrants, the vulnerable and voiceless”.

Pope Francis said recently “I am compelled to draw attention to the reality of child migrants, especially those who are alone… they are children, they are foreigners, and they have no means to protect themselves”.

Today, migration and refugees affect all countries and is growing into a tragic situation of global proportions.  Migrants and refugees leave their homeland in search of a better and safe life, however, they face the difficult experience of migration, rejection and often hatred all over again.

As Christians we are called to reach out to and pray for all migrants and refugees to emphasise the unity of the human family and the Gospel values of acceptance, hospitality and love of neighbour.

Remember the words of Jesus: “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but the one who sent me.” Mk 9:37, Lk 9:48
