I MIGHT add to my earlier reference to violence in the world by being more specific. I cannot, for all my searching, find any justice or sanity in the ongoing war in Syria.
The ‘Grand Coalition’ sponsored by France, after the Paris terror, adds to the previous Coalition of all the most powerful countries in the world, and they cannot extinguish a conflict, no matter how bitter, that rages in a very limited space?
One way must surely be to dry up the weapons. Pope Francis pointed this out, unambiguously, in his speech to the Congress of the United States:
“Being at the service of dialogue and peace also means being truly determined to minimize and, in the long term, to end the many conflicts throughout the world. Here we have to ask ourselves: Why are deadly weapons being sold to those who plan to inflict untold suffering on individuals and society? Sadly, the answer, as we all know, is simply for money: money that is drenched in blood, often innocent blood. In the face of this shameful and culpable silence, it is our duty to confront the problem and to stop the arms trade.”
Pope Francis states it quite clearly but it does not stop.
