Review Of Saint Bridget’s Catholic Primary School

PRINCIPAL Michelle Verna and the staff of the school have just completed their four-year review under the direction of Catholic Education Melbourne (CEM).

Christine Wakeling was the reviewer. Her long report was generally very positive. In particular, our school continues to be a centre of academic excellence with exceptional NAPLAN results, well above the State and regional averages.

Five areas were under review. Education in Faith (Catholic Identity), Learning and Teaching (Curriculum and Visible Learning), Student Well-being, Leadership and Management and School Community (Parents and Community).

All passed with improvements over four years with the exception on Catholic Identity which marginally declined. There can be many reasons for this to do with enrolment and student perceptions of the school.

I rather think that it is related to a more widespread development which too broadly subsumes Catholic faith with social justice and humanitarian and global issues.

Also, the wider reticence about talking about Jesus Christ as the human life that unlocks both the mystery of life and death. And that is a matter for all Catholics, namely, to be free and bold about our faith in Jesus as the one life that keys into the mystery of human happiness and its destiny.
