THIS week the carpet was laid. It is the final piece in the colour and tone combinations and, I think, works well. With the paint, tiles and bench tops the predominant feature aims to be light, with blue\/grey hues.<\/p>\n

The crucifix, donated by the late Jackie Kwok and husband, Eric Thamby-Rajah, designed and made by Anthony Russo, was installed on the wall behind the altar. This effect I took from\u00a0Belgian churches and from Taize, where the crucifix is central after the altar and ambo.<\/p>\n

The organ has new pipes in a soft gold colour to blend better with wood and with the environment of the space. Also in place is the statue of Saint Bridget, on the wall in the narthex, while the window has been relocated to the chapel of the Tabernacle. The narthex will have carpet tiles. In addition to the statue of Saint Bridget the narthex will house the original crucifix, the pieta and the portrait of Father Paul Ryan will hang on the feature wall in the committee room.<\/p>\n

The sacristy bench and the area where the statue of St Bridget used to stand are being redone in stone. While the floor of the sacristy will be surfaced with carpet tiles.<\/p>\n

We are on schedule for the opening on November 29th<\/strong> and Bishop Curtin has kindly accepted our invitation to celebrate the 10am Mass on that day and bless the refurbished building. There will be a drinks and a light lunch reception\u00a0in the hall afterwards.<\/p>\n

Please bring a plate. This is a wonderful opportunity to invite past parishioners and support the elderly to be present.<\/p>\n

Appropriate seating will be available. The invitation is a general one and individual invitations will only be sent to neighbouring priests and people associated with the construction and furnishing of the refurbished space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
