The Liturgy Committee organised a Vigil last Wednesday on this very theme.<\/p>\n<p>Today I thought I would make my own brief summary of\u00a0 <em>Laudatio<\/em> <em>Si<\/em>, the 2015 document of Pope Francis. This is not meant to replace reading the document but to give a clear guide to its teaching:<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the spiritual perspective is now part of the discussion on the environment.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the poor are disproportionately affected by\u00a0 climate change.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 less is more<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Catholic social teaching now includes teaching on the environment<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 discussions about the environment can be grounded in the Bible and Church tradition<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 everything is connected &#8211; including the economy<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 scientific research on the environment is to be praised and used<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 widespread indifference and selfishness worsen environmental problems<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 global dialogue and solidarity are needed<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a change of heart is required.<\/p>\n<p>We Catholics are part of that change, or we should be but, sadly, many of our Catholic politicians give every impression of being de facto sceptics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THIS week we are encouraged to make the theme of God&#8217;s creation central.
