The children brought forward the St Bridget Cross and Vision Statement of the School in procession.<\/p>\n<p>In my homily I spoke of the history of Bridget. But, for those interested, I am including today a brief history of our parish:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1911 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Surrey Hills parish established,<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1949 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Five acres (2.02 ha) of land purchased for the future St Bridget in Sweyn St at a cost of 1250 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1957 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Church\/School built on site<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1959 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Balwyn Parish separated from Surrey Hills and given the care of St Bridget\u2019s \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Greythorn.<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1961\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 St Bridget\u2019s becomes a parish in its own right. Fr Pietzsch appointed first parish \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 priest<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1963\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Presbytery built, blessed and opened<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1964\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A block of four brick classrooms added to school<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1968\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Three terrapin classrooms acquired<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1974\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fr McLaughlin appointed parish priest,<\/p>\n<p>Frank Doolan appointed first lay-principal at St Bridget\u2019s school<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1978\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fr J O\u2019Shea appointed parish priest<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1980\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 St Bridget\u2019s new church built, blessed and opened \u2013 November 7<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1984\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fr P Ryan appointed parish priest<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1986\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Solemn dedication of the church, and blessing of new school library by Archbishop Frank Little<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1989\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Installation of pipe organ<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2008\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fr Terry Curtin appointed parish priest<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2015\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fr Dennis Rochford appointed parish administrator<\/p>\n<p>\uf0a7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2015\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Church refurbishing and renovations completed \u2013 November<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAST Wednesday, Sept 7, in what was mainly a school celebration, we honoured our patroness, Saint Bridget.
