{"id":2856,"date":"2017-05-29T18:18:09","date_gmt":"2017-05-29T07:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stbridgetsgreythorn.org.au\/?p=2856"},"modified":"2017-05-29T18:18:09","modified_gmt":"2017-05-29T07:18:09","slug":"more-priests-than-expected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kmgit.com\/testbuzz\/more-priests-than-expected\/","title":{"rendered":"More priests than expected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BEFORE (Fr Brendan) came to St Bridgets, as most people know, he spent nearly 8 years involved in the training of priests for Victoria and Tasmania and South Australia, at Corpus Christi College Carlton.<\/p>\n<p>About 20 years ago there were less than 20 seminarians, but now numbers have grown to nearly 60.\u00a0 This was unexpected and we heard so much about the shortage of priests.\u00a0 This has been largely overcome by priests coming from overseas and the increase in newly ordained priests. Our prayers for vocations have been answered.<\/p>\n<p>So keep them up.\u00a0 We have been blessed with many fine young men coming forward to offer their lives to serve God\u2019s people.\u00a0 We need to continue to pray for them that they grow into good shepherds like Jesus.\u00a0 They also learn to be good at shepherding.<\/p>\n<p>But most of the work is the action of God\u2019s grace on them, as they grow spiritually, pastorally, intellectually and in human maturity.<\/p>\n<p>Our Archbishop has recruited many seminarians from the same countries that most of our recent migrants have come from.\u00a0 They have to learn Australian culture and ways of acting, but they also have the knowledge of the culture of their country of origin.<\/p>\n<p>This is a blessing.
